I’ve always had an interest in learning how to play the guitar.  For some reason I always found a reason for not starting.  I kept putting it off for years.
In 2017, I deciding to make an attempt at learning how to play guitar by watching youtube videos.  Many of the videos I watched were hard to follow because the information wasn’t broken down into segments or steps.
I’m the type of person who learns by breaking things down to their simplest forms.  I want to know why and how I get there before I take big leaps.
Being a huge Pearl Jam fan, I came across an instructional video for rearview mirror done by Daniel Trevizo of Mountain Side Guitar.  His instruction for the main riff was easy to follow.  He broke things down into small sections thus making it easier to follow.
I decided to contact Daniel and ask about skype lessons.  Skype lessons were something I never gave any thought to.  After a Skype consultation with Daniel, I decided to jump in feet first.
Daniel is very flexible with his approach to teaching guitar based on the needs of his students.  My sessions with Daniel are stress free however, Daniel urges/pushes me to go to places I didn’t think I would ever see when playing the guitar.
One thing that has helped me greatly is the feed back I get back from Daniel.  If I’m struggling with a certain chord or portion of a song I will send Daniel a short video.  He is quick to respond back with helpful hints or constructive criticism.

If you’re willing to put in time and effort you will see progress.

“Daniel has been working with my son, teaching him guitar, for over a year. He is extremely organized, patient and fun. My 11 year old speaks very highly of him and feels fortunate to have found such a friendly, even-tempered and extremely skilled teacher. Daniel is particularly well-organized and punctual for his lessons. He uses visual aids and apps to help in my son’s understanding of music. When my son runs into difficulty, Daniel finds a different approach to the problem until he fully understands what is involved. My son looks forward to his lessons with Daniel and I feel he has made great progress in his playing abilities. You can tell he really enjoys what he does. I would definitely recommend Daniel.”

“My daughter is taking Skype guitar lessons with Daniel. It’s going great. She improves every week. Daniel is able to adjust his lessons to her learning style. His awareness and flexibility has contributed greatly to her learning. The Skype experience is fine, I think my daughter concentrates better with Skype because there is nothing distracting her from her instruction. Also, Daniel is great about following up with practice and providing practice videos. I highly recommend Daniel for guitar lessons. His online instruction is fun for my daughter and provides a complete learning experience.”

How do you like guitar lessons on Skype and does it work?

“I have been taking lessons with Daniel for about a year now and couldn’t be happier.  Since taking private lessons through the Mountain Side Guitar program, I’ve improved more than I would have expected.  I was initially skeptical about taking lesson through Skype but now see the extraordinary convenience of it.”

What do you like about Daniel as a guitar instructor?

“Daniel has been a great guitar teacher for a number of reasons.  Most importantly, he has shown that he is very dynamic and flexible with his lesson plans.  He is able to do this by analyzing what his students really need between and during lessons.  If a certain area needs work, he will not hesitate to be patient and strengthen those weaker areas.

Another great aspect to his teaching is that he is very knowledgeable when it comes to his craft.  In the past, I had instructors who simply could not answer questions thrown their way.  They left me only with more questions and bad technique.  This has never been the case with Daniel.  He always goes out of his way to guide me through my inquiries until I understand them.  Regardless of whether these questions are posed to him in or out of private sessions, he always responds adequately.  He emphasizes the importance of communication and it’s greatly appreciated.”

Where have you had your lessons from? Example: Home, work, business trips, vacations or other locations?

“I have taken lessons with Daniel in two separate locations; my current dwelling and my previous one.  This period had proved difficult on my schedule and availability due to a lack of time and Internet connection.  Thus, lessons had to be cancelled for a few weeks.  Despite this, Daniel was keeping me updated with exercises and ensuring that I was still on the right track during this period.  Because of this, integrating back into lessons was no issue and progress was being made once again.”

Do you feel Daniel is clear in his teaching and what your goal(s) to reach for the next lesson are?

“Daniel is very clear and effective with his teaching material.  There hasn’t been a time where I feel any subjects covered in a lesson went over my head.  The sessions have always been easy to comprehend and easy to excel in.”

Is there clear and prompt communication between you and Daniel at all times?

“There is always a very apparent line of communication that is always open.  Contacting him regarding any matter has always been easy and fast.  Rescheduling has been a breeze and asking questions between lessons has never been an issue either.  Having never had a face-to-face lesson has never been an issue because of these reasons.”

Does Daniel make learning the guitar easy and fun?

“Learning guitar from Daniel has been an excellent experience thus far.  The progress I’ve made is due to his easy going yet organized method of teaching.  Lessons are always something to look forward to because I know that each week, I am given the tools to expand my abilities and become a better player.  For anyone looking to make tangible improvements to their playing in the most convenient way possible, I would definitely recommend taking online lessons with Daniel.”

How do I like guitar lessons on Skype?
“I like having guitar lessons on Skype because it is more convenient to me instead of having to travel to the destination for the lesson. It is a way of saving gasoline and it especially comes in handy when or if I can’t make it to a lesson. I can simply jump on the computer and use the Skype program right then and there.”
What do you like about Daniel as a guitar instructor?
“Daniel is a very patient, helpful instructor. He is also very firm in things that he is trying to get across when he needs to. Which is what makes him a good instructor he is one of those helpful guides that will help you every step of the way. If he notices that you have a problem in your playing he will point it out and will help you get better from your mistakes gradually. Daniel is an instructor that will help you accomplish your needs and goals, all he asks in return is your full divided attention in the process. Daniel has helped me a lot in being the guitar player that I am. With patience and diligence, he has taught me things like learning the difference between an open and closed power cord for example. Overall I like Daniel as a guitar instructor because he’s an instructor that won’t give up on you no matter the cost, he will help you become a great guitar player regardless of your own doubts. He teaches you things that you never thought you were capable of doing. He will teach you things that you would think would be complicated to play on the guitar and turn it into something simple. He is not like the other guitar instructors who will rip you off and won’t take the time to help you. Daniel will take the time to help you in whatever you want to accomplish on the guitar. Without Daniel, I wouldn’t be the guitar player that I am today.”
